A lawyer, social critic, and contributing editor of The Atlanticsince 1991, Wendy Kaminer has said that she likes to think words have power but knows they don't cast spells.
Kaminer's experiences as a staff attorney in the New York Legal Aid Society and in the New York City Mayor's Office have no doubt influenced her writing projects.

She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1993, and is now a senior corresponent for The American Prospect. A renowned contrarian, Kaminer has tackled the issues of censorship and pornography, feminism, pop psychology, gender roles and identities, crime and the criminal-justice system, and gun control.
Her latest book, Sleeping with Extra-Terrestrials: The Rise of Irrationalism and Perils of Piety, is about irrationalism, focusing on popular spirituality and religion. Kaminer's articles in The Atlantic include a review of Susan Faludi's Backlash (December 1991),
